About Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission – Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission are twin organizations which form the core of a worldwide spiritual movement (known as Ramakrishna Movement or Vedanta Movement). Swami Vivekananda and Ahmedabad – The city of Ahmedabad has been sanctified by the stay of Swami Vivekananda during his days as a wandering monk in 1891. Swamiji stayed as guest of Shri Lalshankar Umiashankar Travadi, then the sub-judge of Ahmedabad, first in his house; now at 36 Amritlal’s Pole in Khadia and then in house which is now in Ellisbridge behind the Town Hall. The two buildings still exist as silent witness to the visit of the great prophet of modern India. The plan is to convert these buildings as befitting memorials of Swami Vivekananda.

Shri Ramakrishna Vivekananda Centre, Ahmedabad – Apart from these, there are more than 1,000 centres dedicated to the ideology of Ramakrishna Vivekananda which are managed as trusts by the householder devotees. These trusts are affiliated to Ramakrishna Vivekananda Bhavaprachar Parishad; an advisory body through which the guidance of the monks of the Ramakrishna Order are made available to the centres. Shri Ramakrishna Vivekananda Centre, Ahmedabad is one such centre started in 1988 which was so long affiliated with Gujarat Ramakrishna Vivekananda Bhavaprachar Parishad. It’s major activities include : 1) Visit of monks of Ramakrishna Order for regular Satsang and other spiritual activities 2) Regular prayers by the devotees in the evening 3) Celebration of Janma Jayanti of Shri Ramakrishna, Ma Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda and major saints and prophets of Hinduism. 4) Shri Ram-nam on Ekadashi Tithi. 5) Viveka-Vihar – a Values Education activity for poor children 6) Narayan Seva – Distribution of food etc. to the poor and needy.

Transfer of properties of Shri Ramakrishna Vivekananda Centre to Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math –  The Trustees of Ramakrishna Math have decided to accept the proposal of the transfer of the properties and management of Shri Ramakrishna Vivekananda Centre, Ahmedabad to Ramakrishna Math. This Centre will now be called Ramakrishna Math, Ahmedabad and will be a subcentre of Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot which is an official branch of Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math. The handing over ceremony took place in a public meeting organized on 30th May, 2018 from 7 p.m to 8 p.m at Sindhu Bhavan, Ahmedabad. Swami Suviranandaji Maharaj, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math remained present in the function and received the documents on behalf of Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math from the hands of the Trustees of Shri Ramakrishna Vivekananda Centre, Ahmedabad. Shri Vijaybhai Rupani, Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Nitinbhai Patel, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat and Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Honourable Education Minister of Gujarat also graced the occasion which was attended by about 800 invitees including various respected monks of other branch centres, eminent citizens, devotees, donors and well-wishers.
